Tamara Eaton Design in Dwell.com

Go to Dwell.com to see one of Tamara Eaton Design's recently completed projects.  This renovated SoHo Loft, an old Light Bulb Factory, had a narrow footprint which presented challenges for the design team.  Check out how they overcame these obstacles to produce a high-end and sophisticated product.

The residence is located on Crosby Street, which is part of the landmarked SoHo Cast Iron Historic District. Once a manufacturing and industrial area then an artists' enclave, the neighborhood is now a retail hub. This particular loft used to be a light bulb factory, which informed the renovation's materiality. All of the natural light enters the apartment from the living room windows. 590BC worked with Tamara Eaton Design to furnish the interiors, which holds a mix of refined and rough-hewn pieces. A vintage Harry Bertoia chair holds court with a B&B Italia sofa, shag carpet by Shansom Rugs, steel side table from Global Views, and steel Arco coffee table from Room. Throw pillows upholstered in fabrics from Upstate, Maharam, and Romo add punches of color. Photo by Frank Oudeman.

Aellon Wright X-Back Chair

Brooklyn-based sustainable furniture company AELLON recently introduced its inaugural collection, The Grace Line, inspired by and built from a 45-year old shipwrecked boat named Grace that the co-founders discovered on a surf trip in Indonesia. One of our favorite pieces from the collection is the Wright X-Back Chair made from sustainable harvested mahogany wood, shown in black.

Laura chair by Thomas O'Brien

Made by Hickory chair, the Laura chair is a perfect side chair for any room. The soft tufting adds textural detail to the sloped back chair. Because the back of the chair is rounded, it's an excellent choice in a room where you will see the back of the chair. Frequently we run into an issue where we see not only the front, but the back and sides of a chair. The Laura chair is a good looking chair from all sides, making it a great candidate.

Oslo chaise from Nancy Corzine

This midcentury inspired chaise from Nancy Corzine has a slender wood frame and soft tufting. Similar to Paul McCobb designed furniture, the legs are slightly tapered at the base. Available in several wood or painted finishes from Nancy Corzine.

StreetEasy.com published my new article this past week.  This new article explains how to make antiques work in a modern home.  Please take a read though and let me know what you think!

Boudoir Ottoman

Seen at the New York Gift show, this round Hassock ottoman is a gorgeous color and design at a reasonable price point. This print is Ostrich on Kohl and there are more amazing hand made patterns. Aviva Stanoff also has a large pillow collection to coordinate with the ottoman fabrics.

Toro chair from Blu Dot

The thick natural leather on this comfortable lounge chair will acquire a beautiful patina. The bent wood frame comes in black or natural with a matching leather sling seat. Blu dot sells this for just under $1,000. It has a very modern shape but keep a natural, tactile quality with the leather.

Forest Chair and Table

Janus et Cie has a lovely line of Forest product with fun, lively finishes. The arm chairs are comfortable and the table has a nice form that doesn't compete, but suits the chairs in a balanced way.

Celeste Sofa

Jayson Home and Garden's Celeste Sofa and a nicely tufted sofa with a grey linen fabric. The formal sofa is $2,999- a reasonable price for an 83" long sofa!

elephant stool

Rightly named the Elephant Stool, the grey slate top is a nice juxtaposition to the light metal base. The stool is 16" high x 19" diameter and is a wonderfully economic addition to a living room at only $160.

Aaron Sofa

The Aaron sofa from Bright Furniture Group comes either 64" or 82" long. The back wood detail gives the sofa a nice midcentury feel without overtly being a true midcentury design. This also comes in a chair. Bright Furniture has a showroom at 200 Lexington Avenue.

BB Italia chair

This is a great new indoor/outdoor chair from B B Italia. It's not in the showroom yet, but I'm sure it will be soon. This comes in a few different colors and materials. This reminds me of the Tom Dixon wing back chair. The wing back from Patricia Urquiola is by far the best from her collection. It gives lawn furniture a glamorous edge.

Revolt chair

The reedition chair from 1953 designed by Friso Kramer comes in black and white. It's actually wider than you think and it makes a good dining seat at 'stand' restaurant on 12th St. You can find it from Ahrend.

Windsor Smith velvety chaise

Smith's slim chaise is an elegant and formal chaise. It looks luxurious in the chocolate brown, but it can be ordered in linen, leather or velvet. The chaise is actually quite small with a width of 54" and is priced from $3,400 to $4,700. This is one of the cleaner pieces from Windsor Smith Home, but she has many great historically inspired pieces.

slow chair

The Vitra Slow chair is a certainly a chair for a slow day. At generous proportions this chair is comfortable and has personality. It comes in several colors with pillows and cushions. It's pretty price at about $3,200 for the chair alone, but in the right space it could be worth it.

Leather Stool

This square stool is a perfect addition to a living room or den. The woven leather stool from Mecox Gardens is about $495, but I think this type of stool works well in pairs. The textural quality of the woven leather could be used well as a contrast to upholstered furniture

Steel sleeping

Jim Zivic is talented at using interestingly industrial materials and creating domestic furniture and accessories. This steel daybed has beautifully hard surfaces juxtaposed to the soft cushion and mattress. This is a modern daybed for anyone who still sees daybeds as old fashioned.
