Tamara Eaton Design in Dwell.com

Go to Dwell.com to see one of Tamara Eaton Design's recently completed projects.  This renovated SoHo Loft, an old Light Bulb Factory, had a narrow footprint which presented challenges for the design team.  Check out how they overcame these obstacles to produce a high-end and sophisticated product.

The residence is located on Crosby Street, which is part of the landmarked SoHo Cast Iron Historic District. Once a manufacturing and industrial area then an artists' enclave, the neighborhood is now a retail hub. This particular loft used to be a light bulb factory, which informed the renovation's materiality. All of the natural light enters the apartment from the living room windows. 590BC worked with Tamara Eaton Design to furnish the interiors, which holds a mix of refined and rough-hewn pieces. A vintage Harry Bertoia chair holds court with a B&B Italia sofa, shag carpet by Shansom Rugs, steel side table from Global Views, and steel Arco coffee table from Room. Throw pillows upholstered in fabrics from Upstate, Maharam, and Romo add punches of color. Photo by Frank Oudeman.

Mr. Moustache Baby Mobile

German product designers Sina Gwosdzik & Jakob Dannenfeldt throw a whimsical spin on kids furniture and products with their brand jäll & tofta little people. Aside from the quirky cribs and adorable posters, we just can't get enough of the Mr. Moustache Baby Mobiles Gold Edition, decked with a bowler hat and various types of whiskers. Lucky for us, jäll & tofta ships to the US!

Pelle Dorit Candle Holders

Beautifully blending raw material with decadent design, Pelle's Dorit Candle Holders juxtapose construction or paint grade lumber with your choice of 24K Gold, 12K White Gold, Gray, or Mustard finishes to create a geometric patchwork design. Our favorites are the gold and white gold gilded holders as they offer a perfect balance between simplicity and luxury.

Rebecca Atwood Crisscross Pillow

Brooklyn-based designer and artist Rebecca Atwood has come out with a whole line of pillows and artwork that are absolutely to die for. Our newest obsession is her handpainted, cotton canvas Crisscoss pillow. Inspired by "the shadows from city scaffolding and fire escapes," the fabric was created by hand painting angled stripes across one another to create varying hues of butterscotch. A thick overlapping strip braces the right side of the pillow and continues diagonally on the reverse side of buttery yellow for a truly unique statement piece.

Pacific Connections Iris Boxes

San Francisco-based Pacific Connections offers a number of beautiful decorative box collections to spruce up your office, bath, or vanity accessories. One of our favorites is the Iris Box with mesmerizing Iris paper inlay created by Iris folding, a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way to form an Iris-like design. As each marbleized pattern is handmade, no two pieces are ever the same.

Glamorous gift idea- Agate Coasters

Richard Mishaan Agate Coasters from HSN comes in multiple colors such as pink, purple, teal, and beige. Sold in sets of four, these coasters are a perfect gift for the holidays. Only $50 from HSN.com.

Colored Glass

I first saw the beautifully colored glass bottles from Joe Cariati at the New York Gift Show. Not only is he a cool guy from LA, he has found the best stores in New York to show his work.

Feather Placemat

Jayson Home and Garden in Chicago has beautifully curated accessories. The 16" diameter feather placemat is made of guinea foul feathers with a felt back. The website sells them for $24 and could be used for a festive tablescape.

elephant stool

Rightly named the Elephant Stool, the grey slate top is a nice juxtaposition to the light metal base. The stool is 16" high x 19" diameter and is a wonderfully economic addition to a living room at only $160.

wire magazine rack

The small graphically designed shop, Haus Interior, has an amazing collection or odds and ends. The leather and metal magazine holder is a steal at $65.

Jamie for Baccarat

Oh lord these are crazy, but I like 'em. This was the unveiling in Paris of the 9 pieces for Baccarat. There is a limited edition of 25 (or each I assume). The one shown here is "harcourt lolly" but I don't quote know what that is. Jamie Hayon always has a childish tease in his design. This collection is about gold and fruit. What can I say?

elegant flutes

Ted Muehling's flute candlestick holders for E.R. Butler are beautiful. The candles appear to float as the glass is so minimal. In three sizes they can be purchased individually or as a set for 3 for about $4,600. E.R. Butler is certainly the Harry Winston of hardware, but they have so many other well crafted and designed things it's worth a trip to the showroom anyway.

Birdie pillow

Some may think I really like birds, but it's just because they seem to be a recent trend! This Chinoiserie pillow is 12" x 24" and about $140. I think the pattern lends itself well to this size and is a cute addition to a bedroom. Dwell is high quality and I like the hand crafted feeling of the design. Their sample sale is a great place to pick up some good deals. Hopefully this pillow will be there next year.

Dwell Hedgerow

Dwell Studio has beautiful, high quality sheets, pillows and accessories. The Hedgerow line comes in saffron (shown) or persimmon. The duvet set is about $250. The silhouette of the tree branches hides small birds and bugs within the pattern. Dwell has an annual sample sale where one can always find a serious bargain.

Brocade Home ruffles

Brocade Home finally has a store in Soho. It opened for xmas and it's nice to be able to see before purchasing as I still find online shopping daunting. I like this highly decorative white framed mirror for $499. Sized at 30" x 34" this would be a great entry mirror or a for a cool powder room. It would stand out well on a dark, flocked wallpaper.

Christopher Farr

Studio Ilse designed the 36 24 36 print. It looks like an infinite stair baluster. Christopher Farr has made this print on linens, outdoor textiles and rugs. The textiles are more graphic as it it typically a color on a white background, but the rug is tone on tone that gives it a watery quality. It reminds me of oil on water.

Leather basket

Either in felted wool or leather, the steel baskets are a great way to have grown-up storage bins. Jim Zivic also makes a steel cart for the storage baskets. Each bins is 12" wide x 19" deep x 7.5" high and available through Jim Zivic Design.
